Thanksgiving Parade
When was the last time you watched a Thanksgiving parade? Each year,
they seem to get more and more entertaining for adults and children
alike. Whether you've watched a parade in person years ago or viewed
one on television last year, every Thanksgiving parade is a fun and
exciting exhibit that can be enjoyed by everyone - especially those
interested in its history, festivities, and sights.
Perhaps the most famous parade in America is the Macy's Thanksgiving
Day Parade. This Thanksgiving parade was originally named the
"Macy's Christmas Parade." But today, it's called the Macy's
Thanksgiving Day Parade. And its history is simply fascinating! The
Macy's Thanksgiving parade was actually started by 1920s immigrants
who wanted to celebrate this country's holiday and of course, their
participation in America. Four years later, they dressed up, built
fancy boats, hired bands, and borrowed live animals to march in
front of twenty-five thousand people. From then on, this
Thanksgiving parade was declared an annual event! Years later, large
balloon animals replaced the live animals and the crowds grew to
over a million people in size.
Even today, this Thanksgiving parade marches on every year in New
York City through rain or shine - through snow or sleet. Even the
few incidents of balloon accidents didn't stop the Thanksgiving
parade and millions of New Yorkers still brave the cold windy
weather to watch not only the parade, but also the balloon inflation
process before hand! Coming prepared, most attendees bring food and
hot drinks for stamina through this Thanksgiving parade. And can you
blame them? The sights are a must see for not only New York natives,
but from out-of-towners all over the country as well.
All sorts of wonders attract millions of Thanksgiving parade viewers
from the East Coast, the West Coast, the north and the south! And if
these viewers aren't attending in person, they're attending in
spirit thanks to broadcast tv. It wouldn't be surprising to find out
that on this holiday, every television set in America is tuned into
this particular Thanksgiving parade. For at this event, you will
find cheerleaders, celebrities, cartoon characters, beautiful
floats, famous rock stars, live music, and more. You'll also find
school children, school drum corps, belly dancers - you name it!
Anybody who's anybody will be either in attendance or on the show.
If you want to be in attendance, you should take heed to some very
sage advice! This Thanksgiving parade attracts very large crowds, so
you'll want to get there early! It starts from nine o'clock in the
morning and lasts till twelve in the afternoon. Running from 77th
Street and Central Park West, this Thanksgiving parade marches on
through to 34th Street and 6th Ave. Although you don't have to
purchase tickets, special guests are invited to sit in the
Thanksgiving parade grandstand seats only. But that doesn't mean you
can't bring a blanket and watch the balloons blow up near the
American Museum of Natural History at 77th Street and Central Park
West. Have fun!
